This past Geek Dinner was a heavily-attended double header (RI Nexus and Traction Software)! Chris Nuzum of Traction Software spoke about their award-winning enterprise wiki… it’s actually much more than a wiki. Check out the interview to learn more!

Jack Templin and Saul Kaplan introduced RI Nexus at Wednesday’s Geek Dinner. It was a huge crowd, maybe our biggest ever—just what you’d want for a double header (RI Nexus and Traction Software)! Saul joined me after the RI Nexus presentation. Check out the video for the complete interview.

RI Nexus launched at Last Night’s Geek Dinner

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

Saul Kaplan, Executive Director of the RI Economic Development Corporation, and I had the pleasure of addressing a standing-room-only crowd at last night’s Geek Dinner. We presented RI Nexus – a brand new RIEDC initiative for fostering the state’s info-tech & digital media community. In particular we focused on RI Nexus’s online dimension – RINexus.com. The site is an hub dedicated to information sharing and community building within the sector. The site is now up and open for business – check it out. And oh yeah, register and create a profile between now Oct. 15th and qualify to win the new iPod Touch!

More to come soon about last night including, of course, the great presentation by Traction Software.

After taking August off, Providence Geeks returns with a bang this coming Wednesday. It will be great to see everyone, and we’ve got an awesome evening lined up.

Providence-based Traction Software will be presenting its amazing  TeamPage platform - think blogging software meets wiki software meets steriods. To give you a sense of how impressive TeamPage is, InfoWorld recently crowned it the “Best Enterprise Wiki” beating out some big names including Confluence and SocialText.

In addition, that evening, I’ll be joining Saul Kaplan, Executive Director of the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation, to give an exciting update (if I do say so myself) about one of the state’s info-tech & digital media sector efforts. I’m really psyched about this, and hope you’ll all be there for it.

Please RSVP in the comments section of this post so that we can give the good folks at AS220 an estimated headcount. And while you’re at it, subscribe to Providence Geeks’ RSS feed (see sidebar) and/or join our very-low-volume email announcement list (for the announcement list, send an email to Jack Templin, jtemplin over at Gmail with your name and affiliation).

As always, for first-timers here are the details on the Geek Dinners:

  • It’s totally casual. Wear whatever, bring whoever, arrive and vamoose whenever… And don’t worry about eating or not – come famished or full – eating is optional, and frankly, the least of the festivities (that’s not say the food isn’t good—it’s actually great).
  • Topics of conversation will vary as they will at any gathering of geeks, but many of us will be talking about AJAX, mash-ups, start-ups, new devices, innovative business models, interaction design, social computing, digital art, web services, etc. etc. etc.
  • Food and beverages are for sale at the adjoining Taqueria Pacifica and bar.
  • There is WiFi so bring your connected device of choice.
