Wednesday, July 25, 2007, 5:30pm – 9pm
AS220
115 Empire Street, Providence, RI

This is your last chance to get your geek on before September. Yup, we take August off. Even geeks need to “shut down” sometimes… did I really just type that?

We’ve got another great presenter lined up – Providence-based startup, Digication. Digication provides an easy way for schools to create online communities and for teachers and students to showcase their work. Digication is founded by faculty at RISD’s Art + Design Education Department. Digication was made available to US schools in August 2006, within 10 months, it has attracted users from over 1000 schools in all 50 states in the US.

Digication has been featured in numerous publications and outlets including Forbes and The Christian Science Monitor. And last Fall, Digication Founder, Jeff Yan was interviewed Leo Laporte for a TWIT podcast.

On Wednesday, Jeff and Jeffrey Tagen, one of Digication’s software developers will share some of the lessons learned, including business strategies, technology scalability, choice of software library/ framework / platform.

Foo Fest 2007
Providence Geeks will be at AS220’s Foo Fest from 12pm through most of the afternoon and probably later, and we need YOU to help out. People will no doubt be coming by and asking questions like “What are you guys all about?” Let us know in the comments what time you’ll be stopping by and how long you can stay. As an added bonus, the Providence Phoenix will be sending a photographer by at some point to take a picture of a bunch of geeks for an upcoming event on… well, a bunch of geeks :-)

Wall Street Journal Covers Local Site - RingTones08.com

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

On Friday, The Wall Street Journal gave a mention to new site RingTones08.com, a creation of local Green Machine PR (yes Jo Lee’s firm) and Mobile Active.

New www.ringtones08.com Web site offers free political ring tones including Allen’s “macaca” slur, Obama Girl video’s “I’ve got a crush on Obama” refrain and Bush’s “Brownie, you’re doing a heck of a job.”

Another Providence Geek, Alex Taylor, of Big Ring did the design and development.

Kudos guys!
